Lush Cosmetics Shampoo Bars – review

After many shower-time trials, it’s time to draw my conclusions about Godiva and Jumping Juniper, the two Lush Cosmetics shampoo bars I bought. The tests are now over, and it’s time to know which one is the best-performing actor.

Lush Cosmetics shampoo bars come in handy when travelling, but are they as effective as smart to use? Learn more about Godiva and Jumping Juniper naked shampoo bars.

In January, the first month of yearly sales, I did a little bit of shopping at a local Lush shop. It was my very first time there, and it was fun overall. I didn’t have a wish list with me; I just wanted to browse around and buy something useful. Shampoo bars were the ideal choice, so I came back home with Godiva, Jumping Juniper for my sister and me.

Lush Cosmetics Godiva 2-in-1 shampoo & conditioner: review

Godiva is a shampoo and conditioner in one solid product. It’s one of Lush Cosmetics’ naked products, which means no packaging, no fluff: just the product. This round, yellow bat contains gardenia and jasmine extracts, and real dried jasmine flowers.

I guess a lot of people, like me, don’t like jasmine fragrance, but its scent isn’t as overwhelming after rinsing. What remains is a fresh and light scent.

The Lush girl told me that a Lush solid shampoo can last up to 80 uses, that it leaves the hair light because it doesn’t contain silicones, and it cleanses in just one wash. I have a lot of hair and my scalp is very oily, especially during wintertime. For these reasons, I had to use the bar twice every time, and after the 16th use, the bar broke in half. I was particularly disappointed, but the Lush girl was right: I haven’t had hair so light in all my life.

The first time I used Godiva, I dried my hair without curling products, and my hair was really nice and light, but not enough. With Godiva, you need another conditioner if your hair is frizzy or damaged.

Lush Cosmetics Jumping Juniper solid shampoo for oily hair: review

My sister tried Jumping Juniper instead, and we had a free shampoo bar tin in recycled metal with our purchase. I have a little interview with her to know more about Jumping Juniper, and this Q&A session turned out pretty fun.

Jumping Juniper is a shampoo for oily hair with rosemary decoction, juniperberry, lemon, lime and lavender. This solid shampoo purifies thescalp and slows down sebum production. The scent of this bar is very pleasant; it smells like lime. In my sister’s opinion, Jumping Juniper can cleanse her hair with just one wash, and leaves the hair feeling clean and light.

She recommends this shampoo to everyone, “like all Lush products,” in her opinion,  and she would love to buy it again!

How to use Lush solid shampoo bars

Wet both hair and the shampoo bar. Glide the shampoo bar down the length of your hair. Repeat if necessary. Lather between your hands or your head, and massage well on the scalp and the length. Then, rinse it off.  I recommend rinsing the bar quickly before putting it away to dry. When a bar is completely dry, you can store it away in a cool place. The tin round boxes you find online and in stores at £3 are made exactly for these bars.

My first experience at Lush was interesting, and what surprised me the most was the staff’s preparation. Even if you have absolutely no clue what’s for you and zero experience with the company, someone is going to dedicate plenty of time just for you. When I went, the small shop was packed, but the Lush girl devoted time to explaining and showing us how some products work.

These solid shampoos seem ideal for people who travel, have a sustainable approach to self-care care or just want to save on some space in their bathroom. Their price varies depending on your country, but in the UK, each bar is sold at £10 online and in stores.

Unfortunately, Godiva didn’t last long, maybe because it’s shampoo and conditioner in one or because of my voluminous hair, but I’m sure those flowers and the conditioning chunks take up too much volume of the bar. BUt there are many more shampoo and condinioning bars, so I suggest visiting a Lush store before you buy online, because there you can smell, try new products and get expert advice.

I think next time I’ll buy a simple conditioner bar, I think Jungle. (Yes, I bought it in the end).
