Maybelline’s 100th Anniversary Make-up Launches
No mystery, the centenary products are the new Dream Satin Liquid foundation, the new Lash Sensational Intense Black mascara and Master Ink, its new eyeliner.
These launches have been presented at the Milan Fashion Week, and they’re all rich in formula, elegant in finishes and comfortable in wearability. Little jewels from the catwalk to your clutch… we’re going to explore them together! Pop a bottle if you’re excited.
New Maybelline Dream Satin Fluid Foundation: product & packaging
Starting from the base or from the foundation… here’s the new Dream SATIN Liquid. The newest arrival in the Dream family is Dream Satin Liquid, a perfecting foundation with a featherlight texture and natural-looking finish.Dream Satin Liquid combines the coverage and ease of application of a traditional liquid foundation with the delicate texture and natural effect that a mousse foundation achieves.
Whether you’ve got combo skin like me, you’re looking for an “easy-to-spread-allover” foundation on a rushed morning or a perfect base for a night out, this has you covered.
Dream Satin Liquid comes in a perspex bottle with a pump dispenser that perfectly doses the product for zero-waste and hygienic application.
Shades & Tones
Here we have 6 shades with different undertones, all with SPF 13:
n. 010 Ivory for fair skin
n. Beige Doré-Nude 021 and n. 030 Sable-Sand for medium/light skin
n. 040 Cannelle-Fawn and n. Miel 045 for medium/dark skin
n. 048 Sun Beige for dark skin
The shades I’ve tried are:
- 21 Nude (Beige Doré) a warm beige with a yellow undertone
- 30 Sand (Sable), a rosy beige with a light touch of grey and undertone shifting between cool and neutral
- 40 Fawn (Cannelle) a medium shade of rose/powder pink with a strong cool undertone
- 45 Miel a darker shade of beige/toffee with a yellow and warm undertone.
These tones will match the needs of all skin tones, but they can also be used for natural-looking contouring. The texture makes these foundations easy to mix, so you can find your ideal shade as your skin colour changes with the season.
I took a bit of sunbathing lately and my face looks warmer now so I managed, by combining Nude and Sable, to find my perfect skin tone.
During the secret testing weeks, I also ran several contouring tests with a very light touch of Fawn for highlighting, thanks to its cool undertone, and Miel to create shadows, especially on my right cheek and along the jawline. I used both my hands and a blending sponge, and some features of the newest Dream Satin Liquid really impressed me.
Performance & Lasting Power
Dream Satin Fluide isn’t just easy to apply but, in my opinion, extremely light and easy to customise. It’s very delicate on my skin; it’s like wearing a second one. The result is natural, but it can cover discolouration and blemishes.
It lasts long and leaves my skin soft to the touch, just like a mousse foundation does. It can last up to 12 hours; however, you will need to blot away excess sebum with some blotting paper after one hour from the application.
Dream Satin Liquid promises a “radiant and sophisticated like silk finish”. I find its finish very luminous but it isn’t unnatural or shimmery. While it can really reflect light, it doesn’t contain visible reflecting particles. My face looks radiant and healthy, my complexion is even and that promised satin finish
It has been developed to cover imperfections and minimise large pores and blemishes. I noticed that the Dream Satin Liquid makes my skin tone much more even, and my pores and little imperfections appear less visible.
Obviously, this foundation isn’t a Photoshop magic wand, so large pores or big pimples can’t disappear, but for all the remaining “face things” Dream Satin Liquid works wonderfully.
Fragrance
Last but not least: its fragrance. Maybelline wanted to pamper all of us with a little aromatherapy treatment because Dream Satin Liquid has a fresh and sophisticated scent.
It has light floral notes and woody touches: it starts with apple and freshly cut grass, then continues with rose, jasmine and lily of the valley notes and ends with amber, musk and cedar wood. This isn’t the usual foundation fragrance for sure, but worry not: it’s very soft and isn’t overwhelming. During and immediately after the application, I can pick up the floral notes but they’re so light that don’t bother me! These notes blend perfectly together and none of them is heavier. Jasmine and lily of the valley are lightened by the grass opening note.
Would I recommend the new Dream Satin Liquid?
Absolutely. If you have combo skin with dry areas like me, you’re looking for something extra in your beauty products or you’re searching for a natural effect foundation that’s easy to use, then this can be your next foundation.
New Maybelline’s Master Ink Eyeliners: product & packaging
Cat eye, graphic eyeliner or a simple defined eye? Choose your style and Master Ink, the new liquid eyeliner from Maybelline New York, will help you have fun. But forget the usual black eyeliner!
Master Ink is a precision eyeliner with a small felt brush, that Maybelline defines as “smart”: short and small with a very thin tip. This applicator allows an application that’s easier than ever and helps decide the thickness of your line.
Formula, shades and performance
Master Ink’s formula is designed to be durable and extra black; imagine the absolute black and you’ll get it!
From the three shades available in the UK, we have two versions to choose from: matte and satin. Master Ink matte is the classic black eyeliner, 100% opaque, and dries in a couple of seconds. Master Ink satin is the real new thing in town: an eyeliner with a delicate and intriguing glossy finish.
This new eyeliner doesn’t crumble easily and can be removed with any make-up remover or micellar water. Although it isn’t waterproof, it can sit between lashes in small quantities for a long time.
My favourite version is Master Ink satin because it has a cool twist. It represents a sweet spot between a classic matte and a metallic eyeliner and it can really make a simple cat eye the focus of your look.
Would I recommend the new Master Ink eyeliners? Yes, but only the Master Ink satin.
New Maybelline’s Lash Sensational Intense Black Mascara: product & packaging
No makeup look is complete without a mascara and Maybelline knows how to surprise with its mascaras. Mascaras are Maybelline heritage product, after all. The brand didn’t disappoint with The Colossal Go Extreme! Volum’ mascara and wants to do it again.
The new arrival is Lash Sensational Intense Black, Lash Sensational multiplying lash mascara 2.0 version. Lash Sensational Intense Black isn’t simply a volumising mascara but it’s also uplifting. It opens up the lashes as a fan and gives them full definition. The new Lash Sensational Intense Black contains little waxes in its formula so the black pigments stand out even more on your lashes!
With the first coat, it lengthens and defines each lash, while it lifts upward and outward the lashes and awakens your eyes thanks to its curved spoon applicator. The wand is very peculiar in its kind. It has special bristles in six different sizes made out of elastomer, it has a concave and a convex side. The bristles can reach every single lash from the root: the concave side of the applicator catches and grabs them, while the domed side evenly distributes the pitch-black formula to create the promised “fan” effect.
How is it, then? A bomb!
Performance
I found its formula not too fluid, not too dense. It’s easy to apply and doesn’t stick to my lashes or create lumps. The colour is black, an absolute black, pitch black! My eyelashes need just one coat to be dark and well-defined.
The applicator does its job well as it combs my lashes and lifts them really up! I’m not a fan of silicone mascara wands, but this one looks and works very much like a comb and makes the application extremely simple.
Its lasting power is great as well: more than 10 hours without smudging or crumbling. It’s heatproof and… steam-proof (?). I was cooking and got the steam from the oven right onto my face… my lashes were still perfect! Yes, I’m that clumsy so we can assume that Maybelline Lash Sensational Intense Black is fool-proof too.
The new Maybelline Lash Sensational Intense Black is long-lasting but can be removed with any makeup remover or micellar water. Would I recommend it? Yep, of course! One application is enough for perfectly defined lashes, two coats will give an extra volume effect.
