Knock, knock… who’s at my door? It’s a new beauty store: BeautyBigBang, banging to deliver my newest purchases. I rarely post my shopping experiences nowadays, but this order and new makeup products were worth a review.
Behind this quirky name, there’s Beauty Big Bang, a fairly new cosmetic e-commerce.
Some of the products featured in this article are among the newest beauty goodness you can come across the net. You’re familiar with these two particular foundation tools by now: toothbrush brushes and clear silicone sponges. Together with a mermaid-inspired lipstick, these are the items reviewed for you…
THE SITE:
I stumbled upon BeautyBigBang while browsing on Instagram and bang… I landed there! Beauty Big Bang is a young beauty store that sells a huge array of nail colours and manicure supplies, with some makeup and cosmetic tools. The site is well organised with clear categories and it’s easy to browse. At the moment, the makeup selection is rather small but varied, while the nail art section is well-represented. There are new arrivals and their prices are really convenient with a lot of sales and discounts.
THE BEAUTY BIG BANG PRODUCTS: makeup tools
Everyone has seen these two beauty tools at least once: the toothbrush brush and the silicone sponge. Both small and handy, I’ve put them to the test and compared their results…
The toothbrush makeup brush: packaging and how to use it
The Oval toothbrush-shaped Makeup brush is exactly what you think: a makeup brush looking like a toothbrush or a cushion hair brush. It can be used to apply any liquid and cream foundations, as well as any kind of fluid makeup. With a plastic-made body, it’s approximately 6 cm long and has a sleek handle ending with an oval brush. The brush has super compact and fine synthetic bristles that are surprisingly soft but sturdy, indeed it lost no hair after several uses and washes. The only weak point I could find is the brush handle, which is extremely thin and flexible closer to the head.
To use it, apply a couple of drops of your foundation on the back of your hand and dip the brush; sweep it starting from the centre of your face with delicate downward motions reaching the contours of your face. Repeat until you achieve the desired or needed coverage.
The Clear Silicone Sponge: packaging and how to use it
The Clear Silicone Sponge is a transparent “squoval” sponge made of silicone. It’s compact and stays in the palm of my hand. I suggest cleaning it with a soft tissue after every usage to avoid mess and dirt. It works like a latex sponge but it doesn’t absorb your makeup at all. This silicone sponge has to be used in little stages by dabbing it into your foundation, then dabbing gently onto your face with downward motions, from the centre to the sides of your face.
Toothbrush Makeup Brush VS Clear Silicone Sponge
Both products do their job and are quite small, fitting even the smaller makeup pouches. The oval toothbrush brush is the lightest of the two and, in my opinion, it’s the one with the best and quickest results. In spite of its shape, a brush is always a familiar tool and, once I started practising with it, I appreciated how I can control how much and where to apply my foundation, making it easy to build it up. The final result is a flawless, natural complexion!
Honestly, I was extremely sceptical about the clear silicone sponge but I gave it a go. It isn’t like your traditional makeup sponge because it isn’t porous, thus it doesn’t absorb any makeup. Far from being a positive key, this sponge tends to take too much product at once. It needs some extra work to spread the foundation well, which needs to be blended several times to look even. The first time, this silicone sponge is hard to control. With this sponge, I get fuller coverage with a wet finish and a heavy sensation. I’m sure, the silicone sponge isn’t the kind of tool I would use in the morning when I’m in a rush! Who wins? No doubt, the recommended tool here is the toothbrush brush! Everyone can use it, even a newbie with zero skills!
Metallic Mermaid Lipstick: packaging, formula & texture, shade & finish, how to use it
Gold, I see gold! Hang Feng Metallic Mermaid Lipstick – by an unknown brand – is a multi-use lip colour. It’s a 3-in-1 makeup product, that comes in a classic black and gold squared case. The formula stays light onto the skin and has an agreeable scent: fresh, fruity and yummy (it reminds of an Italian strawberry and milk ice cream… but with a light citrus touch).
The texture is lightweight and melts with my body warmth, this lipstick glides effortlessly onto my lips. It has an overall creamy and light texture, despite I could feel some fine glitters while swiping it. The shade is pure gold: a bright 24k gold with a multicolour iridescence and a metallic finish. The result is completely buildable.
How to use a golden lipstick like this Metallic Mermaid Lipstick, then? It’s so easy to blend it can be used as a lipstick, face and eye highlighter, and creamy eyeshadow too. It doesn’t irritate my skin so it can be applied all over your face. I used it as a multiway product and mainly as a lip colour, alone and on top of other lipsticks. I think it can be overlayered with many lipsticks, and it optically gives the illusion of fuller lips when added at the centre of the lips.
What a surprise: worn alone, this golden lipstick gives a gorgeous brightness that’s perfect with my suntan and it’s far from being unnatural! For this quick makeup look, I simply used Avril Le Mascara Bio and Marc Jacobs BeautyHighliner Matte Gel Eye Crayon in Mist Me? to brighten up my eyes, some rusty matte eyeshadow to fake my hair henna colour and the Metallic Mermaid Lipstick. A super shiny and instant makeup for tempting mermaids: just add Au (gold)!
These products look very smart and convenient. Two of them are definitely worth a try. I’m in love with the oval toothbrush and the golden mermaid lipstick and, so far, I’m sure they are both a great choice!
Prices are extremely low compared to the quality: the metallic mermaid gold lipstick costs 5,09€/5.99$, the toothbrush makeup brush is 2,03€/2.39$, and the clear silicone sponge at 1,35€/1.59$. You can find them online at Beauty Big Bang. Delivery time varies depending on your country, an order may require roughly a month to arrive in Italy. Shipping can be quite slow but the prices balance the situation.
You don’t need to be Ulysses’ mermaid to leave some golden kisses! Go for the mermaid lipstick and enjoy a special discount, like a tempting 10% off with the exclusive code VAC10…
