Moody people might not be welcome in my life, but mood balms are! Knd.r Mood Balm is a colour-changing lip balm like others; its packaging is definitely not. You know, my eyes are particularly pleased by a remarkable design: will this note change my previous opinion on colour-shifting lip products?
Mood Balm couldn’t be a more fitting name for Knd.r Beauty colour-changing lipstick which ‘changes just for you’.
Knd.r Mood Balm in Serenity Sorbet: product and packaging
Knd.r Mood Balm in Serenity Sorbet is a hydrating lip balm with colour-changing technology in four shocking shades – orange, violet, blu and black. This lip balm calls for attention with its cardboard package with illustration and gold details. Each Mood Balm stick contains 3.5 gr of lip balm.
Formula & texture
Knd.r Beauty is a cruelty-free brand which pays extra attention to the kindness (to the skin) of its ingredients. This is all I know. I am afraid there isn’t detailed information on this product, excluding that it’s free from parabens and mineral oils; it’s vegan and cruelty-free. One can’t have a clear idea of the texture until the Mood Balm is on the lips. The solid stick looks like a jelly bean with its bright orange hue, but the formula is the lightest and smoothest one can ever wish for. Serenity Sorbet glides like an oil, but it’s better: it doesn’t stick or feels occlusive. Its lightweight texture gives instant relief and nourishes the lip; it keeps them supple and soft for hours.
Shade & finish
Serenity Sorbet Mood Balm looks like an orange sweet but turns your lips in a variable shade of peach. The final shade depends on your lip colour and skin ph; hence, it will develop a different tone to each person. Its finish is glossy but natural. I found hard to show the real colour in pictures; this Mood Balm creates a peachy pink – coral pink shade with a very healthy and luscious look. The shade is very natural with a lovely peach hue, especially at the centre of my lips and as a reflection.
PROS
- It’s gentle to the skin;
- cruelty-free and vegan;
- it hydrates and nourishes the lips (long-lasting);
- develops a unique shade quickly;
- it has memorable packaging;
- a light and smooth formula;
- a nice texture.
CONS
- it stains around the lips (apply in front of a mirror);
- the packaging is delicate;
- mildly expensive for a ‘lip balm’.
This colour-changing lip balm, like any other of this kind, stains any tissue it happens to run through; the final shade and lasting power will differ. Knd.r Mood Balms aren’t like regular lip balms and MUST be applied with a mirror. The risk: outlining the lips with an unappealing orange smudge. In fact, the Mood Balm ‘transforms’ instantly, and the personal shade develops while applying the stick.
The stain on my wrist – left as part of a test – lasted for around 20 hours. While, on my lips, the colour lasts less than one hour and a half. Eating, drinking and kissing do all soften the colour until it becomes a light shade on the lips. However, suppleness lasts longer. Softness and hydration can be clearly seen and felt hours after eating. I put this Mood Balm before going to be (just for the sake of it), and the next morning my lips were quite plumped and looking healthy.
Serenity Sorbet is an easy-to-wear shade and a versatile colour which induces comfortable sensations. The name is well-matched and inspired me a colourful look reminding of Summer sky at sunset with lavender and warm reds.
Knd.r Mood Balm in Serenity Sorbet is available at a full price of $16 and £14 and in a total of 4 shades. It was my last Birchbox, y opinion on the price? It’s more than what I would usually spend on a lip balm, but it’s more than a lip balm, in the end. Yes, indeed, it works better than other colour-changing lipsticks and gives me more than a playful experience and lip colour. It goes beyond the aim of a lip balm. If it could permanently change my mood in better, I would be the happiest creature in the world!
