Don’t try to hide it, if there’s one, basic skincare step everyone (including you and my younger self) forgets is the toner. After using Rovectin Cica Care Purifying Toner for a month, I think I was a pretty dumb teen.
When life’s hard, your skin simply doesn’t cope and goes bananas. Meaning, your face gets upset and explodes in a myriad of pimples and bumps, passing through ever-evolving stages. I switched every skincare step, then I paired two mild acidic cleansers (one here) with this Rovenctin toner, and something happened…
Rovectin Cica Care Purifying Toner: product and packaging
Rovectin Cica Care Purifying Toner looks simple: a clear tonic for problematic and sensitive skin. It comes in a mattified clear plastic bottle for 260 ml of product. The particularly sturdy closure snaps loudly and loses nothing.
Formula
The Cica Care line is made to treat imperfections, calm inflammation and relieve impure, acne-prone and sensitive skin. From this range, the Purifying Toner is formulated with panthenol, calamine and madecassoside:
- panthenol (Vitamin B5) soothes inflamed and irritated skin and creates an anti-water loss shield;
- calamine lotion is a primary treatment for itchy skin (insect bites, eczema, chickenpox… all covered);
- madecassoside naturally comes from Centella Asiatica and is a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. It heals wounds and scars, and soothes skin from inflamed responses. It stimulates the production of collagen; hence it improves age signs and skin texture.
These ingredients are part of Rovectin’s Barrier Repair Complex, which protects and strengthens the skin natural barrier, our skin’s ability to keep fluids. Other components are Houttuynia Cordata (anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, pore refining) and Centella Asiatic (anti-inflammatory, cicatrising) extracts. The ingredient list suggests this toner is a balanced product and a total doer. The lack of mineral oil and synthetic ingredients (colourants and fragrances) makes it virtually hypoallergenic. We’ll see in the next sessions how it actually worked with my skin.
Texture and scent
Rovectin Cica Care Purifying Toner is a clear liquid with a distinctive fragrance. This toner has ozonic (aquatic) notes and a touch of greenery; my nose detects a strong (herbal) medicamental character. [SEE here the SCENT CHART] It results mildly fresh and needs around a minute to get fully absorbed; meanwhile, it feels slightly sticky.
PROS:
- it’s gentle (no redness noted),
- crueltyfree,
- it comes in a big bottle,
- combines effortlessly with other skincare products,
- removes extra dirt and sebum,
- acts fast,
- improves and evens skin texture,
- reduces imperfection,
- it has no harsh chemicals.
CON:
- none
Rovectin Cica Care Purifying Toner costs $24 (260 ml) and is available at Wishtrend. The regular price is above what I would normally usually spend on a single piece of skincare never tried before. Considering what I spent in total to treat my breakout without solid success, it would have saved me some money…
So far, my research and reading tell this toner isn’t a one-way treatment for acne-prone skin or acne-alike imperfections! In fact, it’s a total action skin care product. When I faced a major breakout during the pick of the lockdown, I found it hard to control extra sebum and keep my face clear from new pimples and clogged pores without stressing and dehydrating my skin more. It happens with weeks of clay washes and masks, of course.
Rovectin Cica Care Purifying Toner encircles the skin problems, and every day my skin looks better. In 3 weeks, my face is less oily when I wake up; I have less irritated areas (those with inflamed pimples); my pores are refined, and my texture feels smoother. I have fewer blackheads and notably, fewer whiteheads. The stressed areas are now reducing.
The problem looks under control, even if my face isn’t back to normality yet. My skin is supple; hence this toner is really effective but delicate. I feel it, and I can see this toner is completing my daily cleansing by removing what’s left from my face wash. Applied on my neck, behind my ears, and along the hairline; every inch of my skin feels cleaner…
I don’t want to jinx these results, but I’m happy with this toner. Forgetting this step would be madness, don’t you think?
