Soon will come the time when many women will face the mirror, unhappy and insecure about how they look with their swimwear. Some of them won’t find the right solution that ticks the boxes for modesty and comfort wear. Ikram was among these unsatisfied women and, out of her frustration, she handcrafted LYRA Swim swimwear.
Summertime is surely less inviting when choosing the best fitting swimwear is harder. Hopefully, LYRA Swim is here to show how modest swimwear is both comfortable and glamourous.
A woman looking for her swimwear: LYRA Swim
Behind LYRA Swim there’s a lady. Who better than a woman can understand women’s struggles, dreams and necessities? Ikram, an outdoor lover, couldn’t find modest swimwear in physical stores, and she had to get inventive and craft her swimsuits with oversized T-shirts and leggings. She started to create mood boards and sketches while interviewing women of any faith and lifestyle. Modest swimwear by LYRA finally came to light in 2016 from Ikram’s mind and the voices of many women unlistened by the fashion mainstream.
Modest swimwear: what’s that?
Being ‘modest’ at the beach or pool doesn’t mean disappearing in layers of fabric, but it’s the sensible practice of embracing modesty in summer fashion. The practice of the hijab advises to cover hair and chest when strolling around in presence of unknown men; although it may sound less compatible with outdoor activities and swimming, burkinis make them possible. Mixed name of burqa and bikini, the ‘burkini’ means freedom to enjoy the sun, the sea and outdoor activities for many women while feeling comfortable in physically and spiritually.
The collections
LYRA Swim is a modest swimwear or burkini label which is strong in ethic, innovation and style. Ikram’s signature brand wants to offer more than modesty thanks to researched prints and delicate pastels, UV-resistant fabric made in Italy and easy customisation. Ikram’s team draws inspiration from past decades swimsuits (think about the ’40s), Hollywood glam, ’60s minimalism and Moroccan optical ‘spice’.
LYRA Swim catalogue offers highly feminine collections with infinite cascades of wraps and folds like Alayna and Halyma; sleek and evergreen silhouettes like Asra, the jaunty wear of the ‘skater-style Naila or Sophia‘s mix&match fun.
Sophia, the star collection, is a customisable swimwear kit consisting of a bodysuit, coordinated fitted leggings and wrapped skirt. Sophia is available in different seasonal patterns, matching turban and accessories. Summer fashion and accessories like kaftans, sarongs, swim shorts, tie-knot turbans and swim hijabs complete LYRA Swim’s swimwear collection. For infinite outfits that look always fresh and unique like you!
LYRA Swim: the making of
Ikram’s modest swimwear has modest prices but hides laborious work which starts in the UK and travels across the Mediterranean. LYRA Swim connects the UK to Italy – where the carvico fabrics are developed, sourced and tested in Bergamo. Then, they fly to Turkey. In Istanbul, the fabric is cut, sewn and assembled by hand in every, single detail. This happens in a small family business run under the highest ethical standards. LYRA Swim flies back to the UK for the last security check and packing. Solely the perfect pieces get the LYRA Swim label stitched on.
Through this imaginative journey and after connecting many different cultures, LYRA Swim is ready to free women’s body and elevate them with style and modesty.
