elmt isn’t a typo but skincare stripped down to the basics (and with fewer letters too). Simplicity is in the design and formulation without fuss in elmt Advanced Calming Solution.
Simple, clear, synergic, effective describe elmt skincare treatments like its Advanced Calming Solution and Frameless collection.
elmt Advanced Calming Solution: product and packaging
This brand wants to speak clearly and does it with substance. You can read it already from the outer package (made of sugar cane and with a nice rough texture) and simple deep green bottles. I spotted customers who love these bottles so much to use them as home decor, but I simply like their heft and shade. It reminds me of a medical cure from an old-style chemist store. The generous glass bottle holds 150ml of a liquid solution ($20) that “doubles up as a toner and a serum“. Let’s see whether or not I’m doubled-impressed by elmt Advanced Calming Solution.
About the brand: elmt
elmt simply stands for “element”. This cruelty-free Korean skincare brand is the creation of researchers who aim to build straightforward skincare solutions that work in synergy with each other. Synergy is the key to understanding the concept of #Frameless advertised on the package.
Formula
elmt is about the essence of skincare, so its formulas are kept pretty short. This solution is designed as a solution for upset skin and to hydrate, heal and soothe the skin in one swipe thanks to its key ingredients: centella Asiatica and moisturising polysaccharides from snow fungus. Centella Asiatica is a loved Korean skincare ingredient, praised for its regenerative properties and used in many popular antiageing and anti-imperfection treatments. This product contains a generous quantity of this plant and its derivates as water, leaf stem and root extracts.
How to use
You can choose how to use your elmt Advanced Calming Solution! You can adapt it to your skin needs, skincare routine, taste and preferences. It has to be used after cleansing, of course, and can be applied directly with your hands or gently with a cotton pad over your face and decolletage as I do. You can decide then to use it as a toner, a preparation water skin or as a refresher throughout the day. It’s suitable day and night.
Texture & scent
elmt Advanced Calming Solution looks and feels like… water. It’s a weightless liquid treatment without colour or viscosity. It gets absorbed so fast you can’t actually feel it. The scent is strangely familiar in its inconsistency. It somehow reminds me of das clay but as I apply it, it vanishes by magic.
PROS:
- it’s suitable for all skin types, particularly sensitive skin,
- it can be used in three different ways,
- it’s cruelty-free,
- is vegan,
- is hypoallergenic,
- has no artificial colourants, fragrances and silicones,
- has a recycled/recyclable package.
CONS:
- it doesn’t calm or heal acne irritation,
- some may not like its smell (subjective).
The smell is a very subjective matter and, from my side, it didn’t bother me. The scent itself was what made it so familiar to me.
As a multiuse and calming product with the star ingredient centella Asiatica or cica, it’s more than ok to have high expectations, although the brand doesn’t claim any miracles. I personally had some (expectations) because I know by experience and from other products like the Rovectin Cica Care Balm that centella Asiatica suits my combo skin and it succeeds in soothing and repairing my skin during acne episodes. Did elmt Advanced Calming Solution stand to my expectation, then?
I found this simplistic solution very gentle, refreshing and moisturising – a very straightforward product that works well to tone and prep my skin first thing in the morning and before bedtime but that “calming” really tricked me!
Probably I read it wrong and I connected “calming” with the cica’s ability to calm irritations caused by hormonal acne, which has been a big concern during the lockdown and again recently. I expected this product to calm redness but also the inflammation, so to heal my breakouts. This solution is actually a gentle touch on my skin and feels very pleasant but it ended up calming those areas that tend to redden due to natural sensitivity and dryness. In those zones – usually my cheeks – elmt solution kept my skin moist, cool and calm. Pimples accompanied by redness appeared but less. This elmt solution is definitely a treatment for sensitive skin with fewer imperfections.
It isn’t a complete match made in heaven but it isn’t a product to throw away. I was simply looking for the “cica effect” I love. On this matter, I almost found a good pal in elmt Gentle Exfoliating Solution, although cica isn’t there.
