This night cream comes in a pump dispenser bottle with 30gr in total. Its lilac and bright yellow colour combination is unique for cosmetic packaging – at least to me, which makes it even more appealing (to me again). It seems to send calming but joyful vibes. The tube is fully opaque making it perfect to preserve a product with Vitamin A-derivate, known for its instability; although this protective feature isn’t ideal from a consumer point of view. In short, you won’t see how much product you have left and when you are running too low. The outer box shares information in Korean and English, and is in recycled paper and soy-based ink. That embossed spring on the package is a hint to the multiple and comprehensive action of this face cream, its name hints at the key ingredients. By Wishtrend Vitamin A-mazing Bakuchiol Night Cream is based on the combination of retinal, a derivate of Vitamin A, and bakuchiol – the latest buzzword in (Korean)skincare and green skin trend. This cream has been created with a hypoallergenic formula with bakuchiol supporting and enhancing retinal effects while providing a soothing and gentle touch. Hence, the formula is suitable for skin from normal to oily, and targets a varied array of skin concerns: early ageing signs, fine lines and wrinkles, dullness, enlarged pores and uneven texture. With retinal and bakuchiol, you’ll find macadamia seed oil, niacinamide, ceramide, hydrolysed hyaluronic acid, and centella asiatica down in the ingredient list.

What’s all the buzz around Bakuchiol
The word “bakuchiol” spread fast and wide. It has been quickly and warmly welcomed as the 100% natural and gentler alternative to retinol.
But what’s bakuchiol? Employed already in Chinese medicine, this is the extract of leaves and seeds of the plant botanically known as psoralea corylifolia. It has antioxidant properties but also soothing abilities, meaning it can contrast ageing signs and calm upsetting skin prone to acne, flares-up or redness. It can be combined with retinol, a very powerful component from the Vitamin A family and very appreciated in anti-ageing treatments, to potentiate its effect while stabilising and making it more suitable for sensitive skin. People swear by but – being a newly-introduced ingredient in skincare with fewer studies behind it – nobody can say bakuchiol can deliver exactly the same results of retinol.
Retinal or Retinol
This face cream contains retinal which isn’t a typo for retinol but this is another derivate of Vitamin A, also known as retinaldehyde. As retinol, retinal promotes the cellular regeneration and production of collagen, resulting in smoother, youthful and firmer skin. The difference is that retinal is 11x faster than retinol but also stronger, which increases the irritation potential in sensitive skin.
Texture and scent
The bottle, with its awkward combination of colours, doesn’t stop surprising. At the first pump, you’ll be greeted by a very thick neon dark yellow product. This bright colour shouldn’t concern you: it’s totally fine and completely natural. This cream has a very dense thick and balm-like texture. It spread comfortably onto the skin like a salve, hence you’ll feel a weight that will disappear. The surprises don’t stop: the scent is OOAK but it falls on the awkward side…
How to use it
Considering the strength of its ingredients, the maker has some instructions for the correct usage of this face cream. Wishtrend recommends introducing this nighttime product gradually in your skincare routine (not every night), especially if your skin is sensitive or you’re new to Vitamin A.
From the website: depending on your skin condition, use it twice a week for 2 weeks → then use it 3 times a week for 2 weeks, etc. It suggests one to two pumps of cream and never exceeding two pumps. Like retinol-based treatments, By Wishtrend Vitamin A-mazing Bakuchiol Night Cream can’t be paired with products with a high percentage of Vitamin C or exfoliants. On a final note, Wishtrend reminds us to use an SPF if used during the day.

Big ingredient for equally big promises. how did By Wishtrend Vitamin A-mazing Bakuchiol Night Cream ($33) perform then?
With so many actions – such as anti-ageing, evening, brightening, firming, hydrating and more – it seems a great product for 30-something combo skin like me. I used this face cream every night for more than one month, after switching from dr. Eve Ryouth – Vitamin C Night Moisturiser because I’m used to retinol-based skin treatment; from the first usage, there was no sign of stinging or redness. It could be bakuchiol doing its magic or my skin being very used to retinoids.
That spring on the box let me hope this night cream could help me achieve plumper and firmer skin. When you think about ageing you’ll always end up looking at your jawline with a degree of concern. The proof is, indeed, the jawline. Mine was smooth and compact and pinching my cheeks gave me some resistance. Firmness and elasticity are real.
My skin rarely dried out during my test, except around my lip/chin when using my latest mineral filter by Rovectin. My skin absorbed this cream very well and got the most out of the formula throughout the night without “waking up” oily or heavy.
Some areas experienced shrunken pores and fewer impurities, although it could be due to a combination of other skincare steps. The overall tone and texture improved but SPF will always be an essential step even if this cream is my go-to night treat. Skin, in fact, gets sensitive to sunlight also with overcast, and dark sunspots will happily pop. In this case, I noticed that this cream will take a bit to even out the damage. About the hot topic: bakuchiol. I don’t believe in miracles but I had some hopes in this strong retinal-bakuchiol formula. This isn’t my first bakuchiol-based skin treatment – the first had been Wild Science Lab Night Shift Renewal Eye Serum (a Birchbox discovery) – so I knew my skin behaviour… a slow but happy friendship with bakuchiol with zero shyness (redness).
