I’M FROM Beet Purifying Mask – review

Beetroots are such a messy bunch! I don’t blame you if you don’t like them, but I’M FROM Beet Purifying Mask can be easily part of 5 a day (for your skin).

Purifying mask for combo, oily and sensitive skin by Korean brand I'M From

Rejoice, combo, oily and dull skin! I’M FROM Beet Purifying Mask is here for a flush of life and to flush away impurities. not your hydration.

I’M From Beet Purifying Mask: product and packaging

The name and the colour give this away: if you unscrew this jar, you know what’s inside is from beetroots. This purifying clay mask comes in a sturdy container made of recycled glass (90%) with 110 grams of product and, for the first time, a bamboo spatula with the brand’s name engraved. Package and cap in a delicate creamy shade and pop of fuchsia seem to recall beetroot and wood colours.

Formula

If I say purifying mask, clay will pop to your mind and this is the case. I’M FROM Beet Purifying Mask is, of course, made of kaolin but there’s also some bentonite and, most importantly, beetroot enzyme powder (1.5%). This key ingredient has been produced with a method developed by the brand to get the most from Red Beet (a natural dye from beetroot) and turn it into an active enzyme thanks to a combination of temperature and acidity. The kaolin is aged for 72 hours with the beetroot enzyme, to balance the mask so that’s purifying but not drying. This formula aims to purify the pores, control sebum, and improve skin colour while helping keep hydration levels up.

Beetroot: skin properties

It seems like beetroot can be a good friend to your body and your skin. This bloody tuber is rich in Vitamin C and minerals like iron. Beetroot’s important content of Vitamin C links it to potential benefits against ageing, imperfections, acne, and uneven tone. However, its natural vivid colour – which is highly used in the food industry under the name of Red Beet – is also the source of a powerful antioxidant: Betanin. Studies found that this natural component has an active role with our DNA to protect cells from oxidisation, hence ageing.1

Texture and scent

Do you know that Red Beet is used in ice cream? No surprise this mask looks like strawberry gelato with its airy, mousse-like texture, happy pink colour and dark bits. I’M FROM Beet Purifying Mask spreads softly, not like a paste, and it doesn’t dry hard as many clay masks tend to do. The scent is quite faint but has a faint sweet touch that is hard to grasp.
The dark bits (maybe from the coconut shell and grape seed powder) don’t feel like acting as strong physical exfoliators.

How to

Use the spatula or a brush to take some product and then spread the mask with a brush or your fingers. Wait up to 15 minutes and wet the product to ease the removal. You can massage it in circular motions as you liquify the mask or use a microfiber cloth to remove every residue.
I use a Magnitone Wipe Out cloth and it works like a fluffy cloud.

PROS:

  • it’s for all skin types;
  • free from artificial colourants (there’s no need with beets!) and fragrance);
  • cruelty-free;
  • effective;
  • it comes in an eco-friendly package.

CON:

  • it can be on the pricey side if used often.
  • (is the spatula hygienic enough?)

Cruelty-free face mask by Korean skincare brand I'M FROM

This “beetroot gelato/mask” is as delicate and pleasant to use as I intended in my description. I’M FROM Beet Purifying Mask ($28) is one of those products that you can use on your whole face and forget about multi-masking because it’s no reason with this one. The formula is effective on impurities but gentle and softening at the same time so that it never feels tight and never leaves the skin dry. It can be used frequently with combo and oily skin without causing any dryness. Skin texture feels smoother to the touch, clearer to the sight and with a healthy glow.

This multi-functional mask seems to nail it from all aspects. I can’t find anything concerning or puzzling in the product, maybe the spatula can leave me a bit sceptical. Bamboo is very versatile and eco-friendly but is this spatula hygienic enough to be dipped in the product?

Are bamboo spatulsa hygienic and safe for cosmetics

Spatula aside, I’M FROM Beet Purifying Mask made beetroot a spreadable pleasure.
