I’M From Honey Lip Balm – review and comparison

An essential in every pocket, a stable presence in every bag. We’re talking about lip balms and I’M From Honey Lip Balm, in this case, with the hope to have found a good one for the colder months and the most chapped of lips.

I'M From Honey Lip Balm with pure honey

The Korean brand that always bottles up something good from nature offers another sweet gem from its collection: it’s I’M From Honey Lip Balm.

I’M From Honey Lip Balm: product & packaging

I’M From presents its Honey Lip Balm, a generous product that can double up as a lip mask and an all-over solution for very dry skin. Honey Lip Balm is an intensive treatment that comes in one size: a small 10g pot with an embossed cap. From the product to its jar, including its outer eco package, the colour palette is dominated by a calming creamy hue. Undoubtedly, not the most hygienic or practical solution when outside but minimally cute in its shade.

Formula

It isn’t a surprise when you find out that the key ingredient here is honey: 10% of pure honey picked in the Jiri mountains in the Southern area of South Korea. The formula gives moisture and locks it in with beeswax, microcrystalline wax, glycerin and some dimethicone.

Texture and scent

Seen from its jar, I’M From Honey Lip Balm instantly recalls set honey and its scent is unmistakably honey-like. It’s an intense natural scent which might feel overwhelming. If you wouldn’t normally use honey in your drinks or puddings it might be your case.

It comes as a firm and thick balm that turns greasy and melty on your fingers. The texture, as I run my fingers in the pot, reminds me of a Lypsil but it’s “fattier” and has a certain “weight” on your lips and skin.

PROS:

  • it’s suitable for very dry and sensitive skin;
  • dermatologically tested;
  • protective;
  • cruelty-free and vegan;
  • free from artificial colourants and fragrances;
  • multipurpose;
  • it contains natural ingredients.

CONS:

  • it doesn’t provide sun protection;
  • it can feel heavy on some skin;
  • it’s expensive (at the regular price);
  • it has a strong scent (subjective).

I’M From Honey Lip Balm is described as a hydrating and protective treatment, which is also soothing for dry skin. From these features, one could expect a rather heavy-duty product…

Its intensive property allows it to function as more products in one: a rescue balm for dry and chapped areas of your body, such as elbow and cuticles, and a lip sleeping mask. What better occasion than testing it against a Korean sleeping mask?

I’M From Honey Lip Balm vs COSRX Full Fit Propolis Lip Sleeping Mask

I haven’t picked these two products by chance. In fact, Wishtrend suggests that I’M From Honey Lip Balm (10g x $20) can be used as an overnight mask, while COSRX Full Fit Propolis Lip Sleeping Mask (20g x $19 on Stylevana) is said to work as a daily lip balm. So… Which one is going to perform best as a multi-use lip product?

This task isn’t that straightforward and needs tests and a closed-look examination. Both products contain beeswax and honey, but COSRX has a longer ingredient list and a more complex formula based on bees-made products. Both remind me of honey but COSRX’s is unscented and lighter in colour. They also differ in texture, with the COSRX lip mask being a jelly balm with less stickiness and a nice viscosity, which makes it glide onto the lips effortlessly. Thanks to its lighter texture it’s suggested as a daily lip product.

Texture and result comparison I'M From Honey Lip Balm vs COSRX Full Fit Propolis Lip Sleeping Mask

COSRX does its job wonderfully overnight and it would do the same during the day but it has no SPF (of, course) and seems to be comedogenic around the lip area. On the other hand, I’M From lip balm does well in its daily duty but it gets lost overnight. It would be an incredible all-over protective balm but the small content would run out too soon for the price.

Finish and results on dry lips I'M From Honey Lip Balm

My love for this brand is echoed by that of my lips, which truly enjoy many applications of I’M From Honey Lip Balm throughout the day. I like its glossy and healthy finish but I think there are some small necessary tweaks to make it perfect: for example, in its formula for day-to-night action, and in its packaging with a shallow pot for easier application.
With these in mind, it would be a honeymoon for me!
