I’M FROM Hug Mask – review

I’M From Fig Scrub Mask and Honey Mask are the two bestsellers of the Korean skincare brand. To celebrate a sales milestone and the 10th anniversary of these products, I’M From combined these two popular face masks into a limited edition.

When figs and honey meet you could either get a dessert or a delicious treat for your skin: it’s I’M From Hug Mask, a cuddle for your face.

I’M FROM Hug Mask: product & packaging

Squeeze the goodness I’M FROM Honey Mask and Fig Scrub Mask with I’M FROM Hug Mask, a limited-edition skincare must-have ($35) that signs 1.03 million products sold over the past 10 years. I’M FROM Hug Mask comes in a 120g tube in a soft cream shade with a themed design.

Formula

I’M FROM is all about genuine regional ingredients from South Korea. You could learn Korean geography with I’M FROM! Hug Mask’s key ingredients are honey, collected in the Jirisan Mountains in the South, and figs from Yeongam-gun in the Southeast.

This mask contains 20% honey, 1.2% fig powder and brown sugar, with beeswax, shea butter, walnut shell powder, jojoba and hazelnut oils. Honey nourishes the skin; while fig powder chemically exfoliates the skin from dead skin cells thanks to its enzymatic action, and brown sugar gently buffs off any dirt.

The aim is exfoliating and hydrating the skin as you would do by mixing the two original masks and, indeed, it feels pretty true…

Texture and scent

I’M FROM Hug Maks feels exactly like the combination of the two best-selling masks. Its texture feels less runny than I’M FROM Honey Mask with grainy particles like a scrub. It’s a yellowish-ochre mask with a thickly gooey texture and a mildly sweet and warm fragrance.

How to use I’M FROM Hug Mask:

Using I’M FROM Hug Mask is like a nice hug…
Apply it on clean skin and leave it for 10 to 30 minutes, after that, massage it with damp fingers in circular motions and rinse it off with warm water. Put it dry and follow up as quickly as possible with the rest of your skincare routine.

PROS:

  • it’s suitable for all skin types and combo skin;
  • free from silicon and ethanol;
  • vegan-friendly and cruelty-free;
  • pleasant to use;
  • a big deal (2 products in 1);
  • not clogging or heavy (as I’M FROM Honey Mask);
  • it combines two actions in one;
  • gently exfoliates the skin;
  • doesn’t irritate the skin.

CONS:

  • the hydration feeling doesn’t last long;
  • contains fragrance
  • it’s a limited edition.

The idea behind this celebratory product came directly from the brand’s customers who loved the combination of I’M FROM Honey Mask ($38) and Fig Scrub Mask ($32).

The combination of the two products’ actions sounded really promising for my combo skin which needs a balanced treatment. As I tried the two original products, I knew what to expect but the experience was way better than expected.

Between the two, this wins.

Little flaws encountered in I’M FROM Honey Mask were its extreme gooeyness and high moisturizing power, which felt too heavy. It felt almost clogging on my T-zone and somehow heavy on my dry areas as well. I’M FROM Fig Scrub Mask is still, instead, a great option to get smooth skin after a week of work, sweat and commute: dirt.

I’M FROM Hug Mask succeded in giving the best of the two masks by evening the texture of my skin in a delicate way and making it feel peachy-smooth and hydrated. I see a natural glow after using this face mask – which reminds me of the result with I’M FROM Honey Serum – and a soft touch. Speed is key with this mask, thou!

As much as the skin feels clean and smooth, following up with the complete skincare regime is essential to ensure the initial quenched feeling. The skin will dry up too fast; in the end, with I’M FROM Hug Mask you just exfoliate the skin with a very rich cream. No treatment can be said complete without toner, serum, and the rest of your 10-step (or less) Korean skincare regime.
Speed aside, this is a smart treatment to get 2 products in one!
