Formula
The formula penetrates hair follicles to release keratin, which is a natural protein of both hair and nails. Keratin will bond to your hair by creating a protective barrier against future damage. In this way, it improves hair resistance, appearance and tactile feeling for up to 3 months.
The Mayraki 7th generation kit ditches the harsh chemicals found in regular Brazilian keratin treatments, such as formaldehyde and methylene glycol, and uses plant acids and hydrolysed keratin, which can be found in both the shampoo and the smoothing treatment. The shampoo, in particular, is formulated to be gentle on all hair types, including colour-treated, with ingredients like panthenol and cocoa butter.
Texture and scent
The purifying shampoo has a gooey gel consistency and a fresh fragrance with fruity/semi-sweet notes. It lathers pleasantly without drying your hair. The keratin treatment has a sweeter scent and will trick you with its look. It’s like a colouring mask with its deep violet creamy texture.
How to use Mayraki Professional Keratin
In general, following the instructions is extremely important when using a keratin treatment because getting wet too quickly or not drying your hair completely will result in losing keratin and diminishing the smoothing effect of your product. Mayraki Professional Keratin Instant Smoother System is quite straightforward and it’s made for at-home application.
- Wash your hair twice with the Purifying Shampoo and towel dry.
- Divide your hair into sections and apply Keratin, starting from half a centimetre away from your scalp. Make sure to coat your strands completely and evenly.
- Let Keratin sit for 40 to 60 minutes (60 minutes if your hair is particularly frizzy, damaged or thick).
- Rinse well.
- Divide your hair into sections and blow dry each lock completely.
- Seal the treatment with a flat iron (220°C-240°C) by passing it on each lock 7 to 10 times.
Remember to avoid getting wet for the next 48 hours (i.e., in the shower, swimming pool, under the rain or with humidity).
TOP TIP
Use a hair dye brush to apply your Keratin treatment and distribute it evenly with a flat comb afterwards.
How much Keratin to use?
Using the exact quantity of Mayraki Professional Keratin is essential for good results as much as the instructions are. That’s because this treatment aims to defrizz rather than straighten your hair like regular Brazilian keratin treatments do and requires more product to do its job.
On my wavy bob, I used a bit more than 120ml of product to get the result you can see in this blog. The image below will show you how much cream you’ll need depending on the length, volume and type of your hair. In short, the thicker, the more voluminous and the curlier your hair is, the more you’ll need.
TOP TIP
Use a kitchen scale to check the quantity while you dispense the product into a bowl. Some extra grams won’t harm!

I welcomed Mayraki Professional Keratin Instant Smoother System with much trepidation after burning my hair with the unlucky idea of getting rid of a myriad of shades from my fading hair dye. Read as this person did burn her hair with hair bleach.
As I collected quite a few experiences with at-home keratin treatments, I had high hopes of getting some vitality back into my brittle hair. However, knowing that this isn’t a Brazilian keratin treatment beforehand helped me to get ready for the results.
Both formulas felt extremely gentle on my hair and skin. I had no burning sensation nor did I “burn” the skin of my hands, which might happen with Brazilian formulas. The scents are overall fresh, and made the application and the waiting time very pleasant. The complete absence of fumes while drying my hair is, together with the lack of chemical scent, what helped me enjoy Mayraki kits more. Having asthma and relying on the air-circulation system of my studio could create some problems…
The most important protagonist should be my hair and not my nose, so how did my hair turn after this smoothing treatment?
Drying my hair was hassle-free and my frizziness and chemical damage left no knots but straightening my hair with the flat iron made the most of this treatment. My hair wasn’t/isn’t only easy to blow dry and manage but also feels light and is less prone to break and fall.
It’s far from the silky sleek effect of a Brazilian treatment for sure, but frizz-free on the lengths and less prone to get puffy when humidity kicks in. My hair still maintains its ability to show its volume and turn into waves that are now softer than ever.
More than one month into this natural treatment, I can only see the top of my hair rebelling but that’s an area I didn’t treat to stay clear of my scalp. That’s rather promising.
This occasion with Mayraki Professional was also a good one to get real expectations from products new to me. Having a clear idea of what I could have achieved avoided a burning disappointment!
