dear, Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum: product & packaging
Rich in name, not in the price tag. dear, Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum ($19.55, regularly $23.00) is a conveniently packed serum in an 80ml bottle with pump dispenser. Ideal for all skin types, this serum is made to instantly refresh your skin and deliver extra moisture without weighting down.
Formula
This dear, Klairs serum is a water-based treatment with a long list of botanical extracts – where you can find licorice, centella asiatica, aloe vera and rice – plus skincare ingredients like arginine, panthenol and sodium salt of HA to deliver the three benefits this serum is designed for: to strengthen, moisturise and soothe your skin.
Texture and scent
dear, Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum is completely unscented and has a watery gel texture. It appears like a runny product with a light viscosity that absorbs in decent time leaving no stickiness or residues.
How to use Soothing Serum:
This soothing serum is the third step in your Korean skincare routine. You can apply it after your usual toner or, as I do, after dear, Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner. The brand recommends patting 3 to 4 drops of serum on your skin. I find that 2 pumps are enough for both face and neck because this serum liquifies with ease.
BRAND’S TIP:
dear, Klairs suggests substituting your hydrating face cream with 3 or 4 layers of this serum when the weather is hotter and humid.
PROS:
- it’s suitable for all skin types, including sensitive;
- free from silicon, ethanol and artificial fragrance;
- cruelty-free and vegan-friendly;
- easy and pleasant to apply;
- it hydrates fast without residues or stickiness;
- refreshes instantly (read the update in the following paragraphs);
- has no scent.
CON:
- feeling to the touch.
dear, Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Serum promises to replenish and soothe the skin with its “rich blend of organic complexes”. If you’re wondering how this serum works and scan through its ingredient list to understand, you’ll get it faster by using the product instead. As the brand specifies further, it’s the serum’s ability to cool the skin to make it feel more comfortable (read as soothed).

Applying this serum feels like splashing your face with thicker water and is, all in all, an extremely pleasant and cooling sensation. It dries unlike gel products; in fact, it penetrates your tissues to disappear and hydrates as it gets absorbed.
Update: While on a quick trip abroad in a hot and extremely humid climate, I noticed that the cooling effect isn’t perceptible. Fan your face to feel some freshness after patting the serum.
I notice that my skin does feel hydrated and smoother but the tactile feeling is unusual for a soothing product. Imagine cleansing your face and feeling your skin squicky clean to the touch. In this case, you’ll have the same squicky-cleanness without the tightness. The hydration is real and the calming effect comes from both formula and texture. However, not feeling the skin as silky as I wished for is a little disappointing. A short-lived disappointment, anyway.
I follow up with dear, Klairs Fundamental Ampule Mist (review coming soon) and complete my AM/PM routine with dear, Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream. With these two, I add extra hydration and find the smoothness and softness I look for in my skincare.
