Nylah’s Naturals Haircare Bundle for Curly Hair – review

With its whirls, curly hair frames the face with a youthful aura, but keeping it hydrated and in shape was too much of a task (for me), so I tried Nylah’s Naturals…

Created for curly and afro hair, Nylah’s Naturals Shampoo, Conditioner & Hydration Bundle hydrates, fortifies and tames your curls with three steps.

Nylah’s Naturals Bundle for Curly Hair

Nylah’s Naturals Shampoo, Conditioner & Hydration Bundle (£48) is a 3-piece set that addresses the essential needs of curly hair and heavily wavy hair that feels particularly dry, damaged and frizzy. It consists of shampoo, conditioner and moisturising leave-in treatment with vegan, cruelty-free and natural-based formulas suitable for the whole family and for people with sensitive skin and scalp.

Strength & Shine Shampoo: product & packaging

Nylah’s Natural Strength & Shine Shampoo (£16.49) comes in a 200ml bottle and is suitable for all types of curls.

It doesn’t just cleanse your hair from sebum and build-up, but it also balances the pH of the scalp and stimulates hair follicles for healthy growth, all without sulphates.

Formula

Its natural-based formula is a bridge between haircare and scalp care. This shampoo is sulphate-free and uses Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate (SLSA), a milder surfactant, as its cleansing agent. It contains ginger root oil to stimulate blood circulation, shea butter to keep hair strands deeply nourished, pea protein to protect hair from damage and reduce breakage, and davana oil to smooth hair cuticles, revealing shinier hair.

Texture and scent

The Strength & Shine Shampoo is a smooth, pearly white cream with an oily texture and an energising, zesty fragrance of orange peels. It turns into a silky microfoam, and its oily texture helps to distribute through the length, which makes it ideal for very long or bulky hair like mine.

How to Use Strength & Shine Shampoo

Shake the bottle before use, create a foam and massage it on your scalp and hair, from root to ends, like a regular shampoo.

Super Botanicals Conditioner: product & packaging

Nylah’s Super Botanicals Conditioner comes in a sleek 200ml bottle with a push button (£16.49) and helps keep curls in shape, hydrated and more elastic after cleansing.

Formula

This hair conditioner is formulated to detangle and strengthen curls and keep moisture for longer with a formula that binds water. Much of its ingredients work toward hydration: shea butter and jojoba oil add moisture to curls that tend to dryness, and crambe seed oil contributes to increasing their elasticity. Citric acid seals the hair cuticles to help add shine, and hydrolised pea protein and amino acids reduce the risk of breakage.

Texture and scent

This thick, pearly white cream has a buttery texture that melts between your fingers. It has warming spicy notes, similar to cinnamon, in a butter-like base. At times, one can perceive a zesty note, but the spiciness is the main note.

Moisture Retention Leave-In Cream: product & packaging

Nylah’s Natural Moisture Retention Leave-In Cream (£20) is a styling cream and treatment in one, and comes in a 200ml sleek bottle with a pump dispenser.

Formula

As the name suggests, the goals of this treatment are moisture retention and elasticity, both of which are problematic for curly and wavy hair. The formula contains shea butter to deeply nourish hair, crambe seed oil to add moisture and lock it in, and aloe vera juice to hydrate and soothe the scalp. By ensuring moist and more elastic locks, it also aims to avoid breakage and minimise frizziness.

Texture and scent

This leave-in treatment is a white cream with a firm, creamy texture. It features a combination of zesty and ozonic notes that feel energising and refreshing at the same time.

Strength & Shine Shampoo – review

Oil shampoos aside, I can’t recall any shampoos with an oily consistency. That’s why the cleansing power of Nylah’s Strength & Shine Shampoo struck me. It purifies the scalp without that drying “squeeky clean” effect I’ve found typical in prep shampoos, probably the harshest I’ve ever experienced. It leaves my scalp feeling refreshed and clean, and my hair lifted from the roots.

The scent is memorable as well. It’s exactly what one needs to feel clean and recharged. Zesty fragrances are for that.

Super Botanicals Conditioner – review

The hardest part of using this conditioner is just… squeezing it out of the bottle. Its consistency is particularly dense, but its texture melts pleasantly as it’s pleasant to work through my dry lengths and ends. Both texture and fragrance are dreamy. Its viscosity doesn’t weigh down my hair, which becomes easier to brush and curl naturally.

Moisture Retention Leave-In Cream – review

Although I can feel some viscosity and tackiness to it, the consistency of this cream is nothing too overwhelming or messy. This cream distributes very well and gets absorbed without adding extra weight. For best results, I apply it on slightly damp hair with the head facing down, then I wrap curls around my fingers to enhance the shape. Styling each lock before using the hair diffuser can be time-consuming, but it’s a must for wavy hair that tends to frizzy curls.

My Overall Experience with Nylah’s Naturals Haircare

Seeing my hair drying on the curly side can be quite a shock, both for me and people who know me. My hair would naturally form soft curls and waves, but I’m not particularly used to this style because my hair is extremely frizzy and difficult to maintain.

Nylah’s Naturals is all about embracing your natural hair with natural-based products, so I took the plunge and tried it for months between colouring treatments.

I found that formulas are made to address those concerns that typically put me off, namely dryness, frizziness and shape maintenance. To these, textures and scents complete a pleasant experience. After washing my hair, it turns immediately into bouncy curls, even after changing my routine. This means that the memory-shape feature is actually real.

However, since I have dyed hair, I can see how the result varies depending on how much hair dye is left on my hair. In fact, when freshly coloured, damp hair appears instantly curly, but the final result is prone to frizziness, therefore, hard to maintain. I achieve the best result a couple of weeks after the colouring session, when Nylah’s formulas seem to have a better hold on my hair. This is when hair is shockingly elastic, both wet and dry, soft and shiny.

Curly hair gives a completely different impression of a person, and I’m sure I would style it naturally more often if I could skip the hair dye!
