CORSX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is contained inside a sleek and sturdy 100ml matte Perspex bottle. Directions of use, both in English and Korean, are printed all over the box, which comes particualrly in handy. It’s suitable for all skin types and it’s recommended in case of acne, post-acne scars, dehydrated and problematic skin. As one of the most long-running Korean skincare products, this specific COSRX treatment is largely available online, it can be found either on Amazon at £24 and in many K-beauty stores and websites like Wishtrend ($25).
Formula and texture
COSRX face essence is a clear product with a jelly-like, runny texture. It may feel sticky at first, but this essence gets absorbed into the skin very quickly. It’s almost scentless; it feels extremely light and seems to disappear once spread. This facial treatment is almost entirely made with pure snail extract. To be exact, this essence contains 96% pure filtered snail secretion.
What’s a face essence, anyway?
When it comes to finding the difference between essences and serums, there’s still some confusion sometimes. Their textures can be quite similar, but a facial essence is a treatment lighter than serums and ampoules, and it goes after toner and before any serums and face cream.
Results on combo skin
I was curious and scared at the same time because I know snail secretion can be very powerful, but this essence doesn’t irritate my most sensitive and dry areas, namely my cheeks and around my nose. It immediately leaves my skin smooth, ready to receive my moisturiser and sunscreen
In 3 days, I noticed the first visible improvements: smoother texture, suppler skin with fewer dry patches, and increased elasticity. In just one week, my skin has become brighter, and my pores have started to shrink in size. With months of regular use, I could see that those pesky fine lines around my eyes were less visible: a gratifying result. I’m not afraid to go outside without a full face of makeup. Just a touch of concealer and face powder feels enough.
How to use CORSX Snail Mucin Essence
One drop of essence is enough for the whole face. Rub it until it gets fully absorbed into the skin, and gently dab a bit of essence around the eye area a well. I suggest using it also on the neck and décolletage for even results. Don’t be scared, if you rub it, it won’t make your skin red or feel itchy.
COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence works very fast, but it needs some precautions:
- Since it shrinks pores, use a light and oil-free cream, and wash your face with warm water to “open” your pores and cleanse your skin deeply. Otherwise, some breakouts and blackheads might occur.
- Apply your favourite sunscreen to every inch of your skin, where the essence has been applied. This snail essence makes the skin more sensitive to sunlight, and some sunspots can appear without sun protection.
So far, it’s been a great product that’s very easy to use.

As you can notice from the “before and after”, my skin has drastically changed after months of constant application. My pores and skin texture appear refined, and my overall tone has improved, despite some blackheads still on my forehead. In short, my skin looks and feels smoother to the touch, is radiant and very hydrated.
