Lord & Berry 20100 Maximatte lipstick pencil in Soul – review

Forget the equations matte=dry, matte=dull, matte=old. I’m talking about lip colours and – as I venture into many matte possibilities – today I’ll show you Lord & Berry 20100 Maximatte lipstick pencil in the shade Soul #3402.

Lonely or matched hearts, this pocket yet maxi jumbo pencil by Lord & Berry will literally follows you everywhere!

Lord & Berry 20100 Maximatte lipstick pencil in Soul: product & packaging

Lord & Berry 20100 Maximatte lipstick pencil in the shade Soul is a lip colour in a 1.6-gram jumbo crayon. It’s a wooden pencil and needs to be sharpened as you go. Despite that, it’s super light and handy, and it fits in any makeup bag or soirée clutch, no matter their size. Its pencil design helps to define and fill your lips effortlessly.

Formula & Texture

Soul by Lord & Berry has a creamy texture with the right consistency, enriched with Vitamin E. It won’t melt or crumble while sharpening it, but it still glides easily on your lips. The product has a dense texture which is packed with pigment for a full-bodied colour.

Shade and swatches

Talking about colours, Lord & Berry 20100 Maximatte Soul releases a rich shade with the first swipe. The colour is bright and never flat with total coverage. It’s surprising how a matte lip colour can look different and vivid as the direction and intensity of the sunlight change.

20100 Maximatte pencil in Soul shows a warm component with coral and peach hues. It looks congo pink on the lips and light sanguigna if swatched on the skin. A very diffused room lighting makes it incredibly soft in pictures, just on camera.

PROS:

  • it’s comfortable to wear;
  • easy to apply;
  • long-lasting;
  • not-drying;
  • has a high-impact colour payoff;
  • pocket-size.

CONS:

  • it needs a sharpener (not travel-friendly);
  • look rather small for the price (£15).

For a matte lipstick, Lord & Berry’s lip colour feels very comfortable on the lips. What about its staying power?
This jumbo pencil surprises in its life span. 20100 Maximatte Soul lasts from 3 good hours – including a meal – to more than 5 hours. Even after drinking and eating – see the picture for reference – my lips show some pinky hue and feel smooth.

How to style it? I think Lord & Berry 20100 Maximatte Soul is a bon-ton shade. I used Soul for a peach look with winged eyes and magic falsies and for a glowy look without contouring.

Makeup top picks:
Face: Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation in Sand, Clé Cosmetics Essence Moonlighter Cushion in Copper Rose (highlighter), Absolute New York Blush Balm in Cotton Candy (blush)
Eyes: Natural Collection matte pressed powder in Natural (as eyeshadow), MannaKadar beauty Lash Blast mascara

Lord & Berry 20100 Maximatte range is a small collection with six natural shades which seem quite ‘classic’. Its evergreen colours, with pinks and corals, feels foolproof and easy to style. Soul is particularly ‘wearable’ or handy when I have no idea on what to wear. Even if it’s formulated to be hydrating, scrubbing your lips is essential because its dense texture may accentuate lines and dryness.

A jumbo lipstick like Soul is £15. It doesn’t dry your lips, does it with your wallet? No, unless you stock up on your favourite shade.
