Mini is better? At least, it’s comfortable. Here’s my breakthrough of Dr. Botanicals ‘portable’Cocoa & Coconut Superfood hydrating mask with coconut oil.

Dr. Botanicals Cocoa & Coconut Superfood Reviving Hydrating Mask: product & packaging

Dr. Botanicals Cocoa & Coconut Superfood Reviving Hydrating Mask is a travel-sized piece from its Apothecary collection. From the same line come my favourite face scrub of all times – the coffee superfood reviving facial exfoliator – and the popular hemp nourishing face cream. If you like tiny packages, this is for you (and me): a 30-ml tube in a bright sky blue and design inspired by the periodic table.

Formula
This hydrating mask has a vegan and cruelty-free formula with 98% of natural ingredients. The key components – cocoa and coconut – are coconut oil and cocoa seed butter, more precisely. Other hydrating ingredients are glycerin, sweet almond and grape seed oil. Crambe abyssinica seed oil aids with its moisture and calming action, carrageenan extract contributes to the consistency of the mask…

Texture & scent
Dr. Botanicals Cocoa & Coconut Superfood Reviving Hydrating Mask has a pleasant creamy texture. The amount of natural oils doesn’t impact its texture or feeling on the skin. Indeed, it isn’t greasy at all. This face mask spreads easily and melts with your body warmth.

But if you were wishing for a delicious coconut-y fragrance (like that of reviving and cleansing soap from the same line), you’ll be disappointed. This mask seems to be made for a delicate nose: it has a neutral scent with a zesty pinch, which develops into a slight buttery note.

How to use:
You just need a thin layer of Dr. Botanicals Cocoa & Coconut Superfood Reviving Hydrating Mask onto clean and toned skin, all over your face or on your driest areas. This mask ‘hydrates, revives and nourishes tired-looking skin’; and needs 5 to 10 minutes to work for you.

The cocoa and coconut cleansing and exfoliating bar actually smells like coconut (delight!)

PROS:

  • it’s effective (hydrates and plump your skin);
  • illuminates the skin;
  • it has a rather gentle formula (but avoid any pimple/irritated area);
  • it’s cruelty-free and vegan-friendly;
  • non-greasy and non-occlusive;
  • made with a high percentage of natural ingredients;
  • travel-friendly;
  • available in 2 sizes.

CON:

  • none (but I wished for a coconut scent).

Dr. Botanicals Cocoa & Coconut Superfood Reviving Hydrating Mask costs £9.99 and is available in a jar size (60m) at the regular price of £16.90.* Considering the amount of product needed each time, there’s enough for months of applications in just one tube!

Coconut skin care for dry skin
Did I tell you coconut chips make me happy?

Dr. Botanicals cocoa and coconut hydrating face mask combines hydration and protection, fatty acids and anti-oxidants. Hopefully, oils and butter don’t mean heaviness and occlusive sensation! The mask dries fairly quickly and, as it dries, it becomes clear. It starts to stretch when it’s time to be rinsed off. However, it may sting if it comes in contact with a pimple.
It washes off as milky water and leaves the skin plumped, smooth, clean and feeling fresh. A natural radiance can be seen clearly on a patch test. It sounds like a fast restorative treatment on the go, so it is. Its handy package represents perfection but, in my opinion, a touch of coconut or cocoa wouldn’t be bad next time!
