'Bring the salon home' with imPRESS - review by Valentina Chirico

You can simplify your life and impress your gang with imPRESS effortless, affordable and trendy press-on designs.

I bet you saw this label many times on display among many others before, why giving imPRESS a go? This is what this nail obsessed lady found out about the brand…

imPRESS – press-on manicure: product overview

That’s pretty straightforward: imPRESS offers a lavish array of press-on manicures that need no glue, zero drying time, no big investments. What makes this brand stand from the polished crowd is a mix of innovation and creativity. Indeed, imPRESS catalogue matches any occasion, personal style and season. You can find your next Halloween party nails, a chic manicure for a wedding and something to look apart while hanging out with your friends.
But if you’re also looking for the most comfortable wear, imPRESS has a size, a shape and a length that fits better for you. From the evergreen almonds to killer coffins, without skipping petite sizes for tiny hands. As I found something for me – and I’m quite exigent – I’m sure you’ll find your best nail match.

imPRESS press-on manicure: product & package

imPRESS cuts unnecessary package. In its kits, packed in small rectangular boxes, you’ll find:
your new nails, a mini file, a prep wipe and a wooden manicure stick.
All these can be found on the back of the plastic tray, stuck together with the multi-language instruction sheet. Although you’re barely going to use the nail file, it’s very tiny…

imPRESS: the innovation
I couldn’t forget to mention imPRESS’ most important feature: ‘innovation’. These press-on manicures have two peculiarities that improve their wearability and longevity.
The Ultra-fit design, a flexible nail shape designed to fit and adapt to your cuticle area and nail bed curve, and KISS patented SuperHold adhesive tabs. This is the real game changer!
While imPRESS nails look and feel very light and thin; the adhesive pads are thick like little cushions but feels equally light. They stick like no other glue tab. More than 5 days of wear and no nails lost around the house is an ‘impressive’ result.

imPRESS: nails and nail designs
A press-on manicure box contains 30 pieces numbered by size from 0 – the largest size likely for thumbs – to 11, the tiniest nail. My experience taught me that finding the right nail size is by far the longest step, namely because of the micro figures inside the tip of many false nails. imPRESS sorted that too! You can’t miss the size number printed on the peel-off protective sticker slips. To make this easy: this round film is where the false nail goes close to your cuticle.

The design factor isn’t secondary at all, of course. imPRESSarray of ready-to-wear nails consists of main collections, specials designs, online exclusives and petites. You can pick and choose from:

  • imPRESS designs (anything from solid colours, gradients, 3D accents, jelly and matte finishes);
  • special editions (collaborations in limited edition like the Rebecca Minkoff X imPRESS);
  • Couture Collection (with luxurious 3D accents of pearls and shiny rhinestones);
  • Spirit Nails Collection (proudly inspired by US college motifs);
  • online exclusives and seasonal editions (do you know that Halloween is coming, huh?).

How to use:
imPRESS technical features make the difference, but there’s nothing unusual in the application. Illustrations at the back of the box and the information sheet will guide you through the process.

How to apply imPRESS false nails

MY TIP: choose the nails first and arrange them nicely on your work surface before you start prepping your natural nails.
EXTRA TIP: imPRESS suggests to pick the smaller size when in doubt, and it worked for me!

Don’t worry if you’re not fitting the same exact size on each hand, it’s totally fine to have a thumb larger, bigger or more curved than the other thumb. You’re not a freak!
The second key to ensure long wearability is linked to the patented adhesive tab: these stickers are sensitive to pressure; hence, the firmer you press them, the longer they will stick and stay in place.

Tips and how to apply imPRESS false nails

My experience with imPRESS…

If I’m quite exigent for design and performance; on the other hand, I’m very easy when it comes to nail shapes. As you remember, I recently fall in love with stilettos, which just a couple of years ago were a big no for me. I feel comfy with many shapes by now! So, when I picked these kits, I just looked for the most appealing and unique style. Nothing beats choosing a product in-store, but the imPRESS website has a bigger selection compared to my local Boots or Superdrugs. I found some gems I’ve never seen before.

Honestly, I could get lost while browsing the drop-down menu, so I scrolled down the ‘all design’ page to make sure not to miss a style. The HQ pictures help me through the choice… they aren’t renders! The stylebook shots with models give you an accurate idea of the real thing. I could feel them already on my hands…

From the imPRESS catalogue, I selected these seven press-on styles. Let’s see them together…
Harlem Shake (imPRESS press-on manicure)
A natural manicure with a casual kick.
30 squoval nails in a creamy shade of medium pink including 6 accents. The accents are pink jelly with holo foils for instant scattered glass design.

Born to Flex (imPRESS press-on manicure)
Delicate as a flower, super resilient.
30 almond-shaped nails, half in a muted salmon shade, half in a translucent warm pale pink. Included are 6 accents with a sheer off-white base with spring flowers (poppies and daisies).

Ten Different Looks (imPRESS press-on manicure)
Licking my popsicle fingers…
You’ll have plenty of fun with these 30 jelly nails. Of these, there are 10 accents in bright neon yellow and neon orange, plus 20 fiery red almond nails. Yellow-orange-red is a Halloween combination, but this set screams Summer and all fun stuff… like Jelly Beans!

Night Fever (imPRESS press-on manicure)
Ready to pop a bottle?
30 squoval nails featuring three different combinations of colour and texture. 6 sparkly accents with gold and shifting hues, 12 matte salmon pink nails, 12 mirror shine and holo finish.

Le French Pop (Rebecca Minkoff X imPRESS)
Tastes like Summer in Riviera.
30 oval nails with a translucent natural pink base and both moon nail and French nail design in either yellow lemon, medium cold pink and cerulean blue. This limited-editions allows you to mix and match the accent colours as you like.

Campus (School Spirit nails)
Blue, red, and white…
This manicure kit made in the US is a college statement. These 30 short squoval nails are in an intense and super sleek ink blue and include 6 accents with the typical chevron cheerleader pattern in the American tricolour.

But I want to spend a little more time, a few more lines and pictures on the last nail art kit.

Luxurious imPRESS Couture Collection
Luxurious is an elogium to luxury with gold, shimmer and pearls variously combined in 30 almond nails. The elegant colour palette is painted in creamy ivory and champagne gold, encrusted with half pearl, micro gold studs and rhinestones. These 3D applications are mixed together in different patterns for 12 different accents such as full-on bling nails (my middle fingers), shimmer gradients with rhinestones, and sober accents with faceted stones on a creamy ivory base.

Mix the elegant creamy and glittery nails with the accents as you like, they shine like diamonds in natural light and under artificial bulbs. A free mix-match isn’t a miss. My right hand is fuller of decorations compared to the ‘humbler’ left hand, but I still love it. The pieces completely covered with decorations reminds of Japanese 3D manicures; the concept is similar, but the taste and combination of colours are very Westerner and European.

The full-on nails look and feel like jewels, but the amount of decors doesn’t add too much weight to the Ultra-fit flexible nails. I’m quite surprised by the strength of the adhesive tabs and even more of the 3D decorations. In 5 busy days filled with housework, showers, exercises, cooking and washing-ups, I solely lost one stone on my right hand. Meanwhile, none of my false nails popped from my natural ones: a massive success.

LEFT vs RIGHT

You can read how happy I am with these designs and the complete freedom to mesh the accents. In fact, the online photo gallery gives you a good style suggestion, but your final mani would be the reflection of your unique taste and state of mind.

Some more words: FINAL CONSIDERATIONS
The extreme hold of the imPRESS tabs is the key feature thanks to which I re-evaluate a brand I neglected too many times while shopping. I thought it was too cheap, moneywise, and I knew tabs usually don’t hold well on my nails. I was really wrong by judging the book from the cover or… the price tag! Less than £7 doesn’t necessarily mean it isn’t worthy. How mad!

mmhhh… which one next? Can you help me?

I think I will stick for a while with imPRESS. I highly recommend these super sticky false nails and, if unsure on the design, I would suggest taking your time while browsing and picking those kits with more accents or variety of textures like Night Fever.

Cheap instant party nails, no glue by imPRESS

The application was so easy and fast that wearing these nails is really addicting. I think of all that time and patience needed to put in place decorations, foils and sequins. The disappointment at the sight of next sheer white or brittle matte. The disillusion every time my metallic nail polish showed its mesmerising shine paired with unwanted brush strokes. Look, a press-on manicure really makes life easier.

What’s next? I may brighten these early Autumn days with some neon jellies or embrace the fall spirit with warmer hues like Run Away or Bright as a Feather. I’ll see how I feel the next days, but I’m sure these imPRESS designs will fit well my nails and my mood too!
