How damaged and unruly is your hair? Mayraki Professional vegan hair treatments will help de-stress it so you’ll be less stressed about how you look.

I’m the first to admit I abused too much of my hair but these two products could help you restore the vitality and vibrancy of your hair, no matter how damaged it is as they did with mine: Mayraki Professional Silky Smooth Proactive Hair Repairing and Weightless Essential Oil Nutritive treatments.

As with all Mayraki Professional products, the Silky Smooth treatment is natural-based, vegan and cruelty-free. Its formula is free from silicons, parabens and sulfates. It works on a combination of natural extracts (including Ginko Biloba leaf, Macadamia and Aloe Vera leaf extracts), amino acids and hydrolysed wheat proteins.

Texture and scent

Mayraki Professional Silky Smooth Protein Proactive Hair Repairing Treatment is a pearly white cream with a dense consistency and a refreshing yet radiant aquatic scent which reminds me of unisex eau de toilette.

Depending on how damaged your hair feels and looks, you can adjust this treatment to restore your hair to the level it needs. You can use Mayraki Professional Silky Smooth Treatment as a pre-shampoo mask, from root to tips for 15 to 30 minutes and proceed with your usual routine.
If your hair isn’t as damaged but just needs a boost of hydration, you can use it as a normal hair mask on towel-dry hair, from root to tips, and leave it for up to 30 minutes before rinsing it off.

PROS:

  • it’s for all hair types (including chemically damaged hair);
  • all-natural based;
  • without parabens and sulfates;
  • cruelty-free and vegan;
  • easy to apply and use;
  • hydrates hair;
  • contributes to making it more manageable;
  • it doesn’t add extra weight.

CONS:

  • it doesn’t restore the shine of coloured hair;
  • severely damaged hair might need an extra treatment afterwards.

Mayraki Professional Weightless Essential Oil Nutritive Treatment: product & packaging

Mayraki’s Weightless Essential Oil Nutritive Treatment ($45) is a luscious treatment mask wrapped as a proper gift. It aims to “help reduce hair breakage by 50% from the very first use” without parabens, sulfates or silicones.
Its box contains a 250ml pot and a wooden spoon to manage your dose better and more hygienically – assuming one remembers to wash and air dry the spoon after use.

Like Mayraki’s Silky Smooth, Weightless Essential Oil Nutritive Treatment can be used in two different ways depending on the state of your hair so you can customise the product to fit your needs.

It can be used as a post-shampoo treatment for all hair types. Applied on towel-dry hair, 1 inch/2 cm from your roots, and left develop for 20-30 minutes before rinsing and styling. For very dry or very damaged hair, it doubles as an intensive pre-shampoo treatment. Left on your hair for 15 to 30 minutes, before continuing with the usual haircare routine.

PROS:

  • it’s for all hair types (including severely damaged and colour-treated hair);
  • natural-based;
  • cruelty-free and vegan;
  • free from sulfates and parabens;
  • it contains arginine;
  • restores hydration;
  • contributes to reducing breakage (and, subjectively, hair loss);
  • amplifies shine on coloured hair;
  • leaves hair smoother and easier to style;
  • it has a lasting fragrance;
  • it doesn’t weigh down your hair.

CONS:

  • None so far.

My apologies in advance for the series of pictures where my hair looks particularly bad and I look rather battered. These haven’t been edited to show you how my equally battered hair responded to both Mayraki vegan hair treatments.

The first treatment I asked for miracles is Mayraki Professional Silky Smooth Protein Proactive Hair Repairing Treatment. Its stated aims are “reconstructing and restoring hair cuticles, leaving it smooth, silky, strong and healthy”, so I used it as a pre-shampoo step on my chemically burnt hair to put it to the test. I was looking at its full potential.

The application is nice and easy, and its fresh scent accompanies the leaving time pleasantly. As I washed it off and shampooed my hair, I felt it was less prone to entangling under the shower and feeling light.
I noticed some frizziness while drying it that I tamed while straightening my hair. Some flyways were still flying high but my hair was easier to style and looked better than before the treatment. However, I noticed that very damaged hair would need another treatment after shampooing and conditioner it as an after-shampoo mask to smooth out any rebel hair and restore the colour vibrancy. After many other tests, I can confirm the Mayraki Professional Silky Smooth Protein Proactive Hair Repairing Treatment definitely shows its potential as a traditional hair mask.

My hair never takes a break – or to be more correct – I get bored with myself and change colour often. A couple of weeks later, I dyed my hair in electric blue and took the second treatment to a harsher test. Could Mayraki Professional Weightless Essential Oil Nutritive Treatment outstand Silky Smooth treatment?

As for the first, I used it as a pre-shampoo treatment with around two full spoons of mask. I’ve been mesmerised by its fragrance as soon as I lifted the lid. This time, my hair was particularly soft and smooth. The water jet was just glided on it. To stress the product even further, I skipped any conditioning product and my surprise continued. My hair wasn’t only easier to brush and dry but smelled divine and the scent kept lasting for a couple of days. I kept using Weightless Essential Oil Nutritive Treatment to see as far as it could go and I agree on breakage prevention: it looks like it prevents my hair from falling! Flyaways are more under control, hair shafts feel smoother to the touch and my new colour looks as good as before the shampoo.

If I compare my two experiences, I have no doubts about the winner, at least in my case. Mayraki Professional Silky Smooth Protein Proactive Hair Repairing Treatment can work well with dry and frizzy hair; however, severely damaged hair will find the right relief with Mayraki Professional Weightless Essential Oil Nutritive Treatment. Per the quality-price ratio, I’m sure it would be a good investment. This gift-wrapped hair treatment is the best gift I could do for my hair, and its luxury sensorial experience, almost sensual, is highly addictive.
I need to put a new pot in my basket ASAP!
